UK will be at the back of the queue for a US trade deal

The Daily Mail, for so long a cheerleader for Brexit and for stories about government scaremongering has published a story (HERE) about the US ambassador to the UK confirming what President Obama said a few weeks before the referendum vote.

Everyone recognises we can trade with the US now, but with EU tariffs in place now and similar WTO tariffs being in place immediately after Brexit until such time as a trade deal is agreed. And we won'r be able to start talks until after we leave the EU and the US won't want to begin talks until the TTIP talks are concluded and then they will have to wait until they can see what our relationship with the EU is.  So, fifteen years at least.

Why turn our backs on the biggest, richest market on our doorstep and begin more trading with the second richest 3000 miles away?   If we can export more to the US, that's fine, but why leave the EU to do it?
