Theresa May and Andrea Leadsom have emerged as front runners to become our next PM. My own preference is for Theresa May who has been described as ruthlessly logical and she is therefore precisely the kind of leader I want.
However, she is reported in the Daily Mail yesterday as saying she will persuade the EU to engage in informal talks before Article 50 is triggered. Although this would be hugely to our advantage I think it is a pipe dream. It would weaken their position and the EU have already said they won't do it anyway.
If we trigger Article 50 we are taking a massive gamble with our economy.
Mrs Leadsom is also revealed in the Dail Mail (HERE) today as having given a speech to The Hansard Society’s Annual Parliamentary Affairs Lecture on April 23, 2013 where she said, "I think [leaving the EU] would be a disaster for our economy and it would lead to a decade of economic and political uncertainty at a time when the tectonic plates of global success are moving".
This might prove difficult for her - and shows she seems to have been a recent convert.
